SUMMER COURSE OF POLISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR YOUTH “Explorers' Summer" 2024

For the summer of 2024, we would like to offer children and teenagers a Summer Course of Polish Language and Culture “Explorers’ Summer 2024” in the form of a camp. The course is organized by the School of Polish Language and Culture at Jagiellonian University.
 
Dates: July 7–20, 2024
Form of the course: in-class with accommodation and board
Application deadline: April 15, 2024, or until places are filled - closed
Prepayment deadline: March 15, 2024 - PLN 500,00
Full payment deadline: April 22, 2024
Fee for one participant: PLN 7 290,00 
Age requirement for participants: 13–17 years old
Language classes: Ingardena St. 3, Kraków
 
The condition for starting the Camp is to collect the required number of participants: 40 participants.
 
IN THE COURSE WE OFFER:
  • 45 academic hours of language classes,
  • Accommodation and board,
  • Cultural and tourist program,
  • Completion diploma of the language course.

In order to register your child for the Camp, you must:
  1. Read the course information on the School's website.
  2. Complete the online Application Form and express the appropriate consents in the attached documents: Information of the processing of your personal data, Regulations of the "Summer of Explorers" 2024 and Consent to the sending information. Then, the School sends you the completed Application Form as a PDF file. The document should be printed, signed by hand in the indicated places and sent as a scan in the form of a PDF file to the following address: plschool@uj.edu.pl.
  3. Make a payment for a course: a non-refundable prepayment of PLN 500 (March 15) and the remaining fee (April 22).
  4. The parent/legal guardian of the child must purchase themselves a full protection accident, illness, fortuitous event and medical cost insurance.

PAYMENT

The costs are quoted in Polish currency – PLN.

Fee for one participant: PLN 7 290,00 
Prepayment deadline: PLN 500,00 - March 15, 2024
Full payment deadline: April 22, 2024

You can pay for the program in two ways:
  1. TOTAL FEE - without the division into the prepayment and surcharge.
  2. PAYMENT IN TWO STEPS:
  • Step one: a non-refundable prepayment - PLN 500,00
  • Step two: the remainder: full price minus prepayment.

METHODS OF PAYMENT:

  1. BY CARD DIRECTLY AT THE SCHOOL'S ACCOUNTING OFFICE (3 Romana Ingardena str., 30-060 Kraków, room no. 139)
  2. AUTHORIZE THE SCHOOL TO BILL YOUR CREDIT/DEBIT CARD by filling out the authorization form sent at the enrolment stage.  
  3. BANK TRANSFER to the individual bank account number sent at the registration stage,
  • When paying by transfer, the School must receive the payment no later than May 13 (advance payment) and May 29 (full payment), therefore the transaction should be ordered 1-2 business days in advance so that the payment reaches the School's account on time.
  • The Jagiellonian University charges statutory interest on payments received after the due date.
  • Please send the payment confirmation.

IMPORTANT:

  • Lack of payment will result in removing a participant from the list.
  • If a participant decides not to take part in the Camp, the program fee will be refunded after deducting a handling fee of PLN 500.00. After the start of the Camp, i.e. July 7, 2024, the Camp fee will not be refunded.
  • If siblings are registered for the Campthe fee for each participant remains the same. The school cannot reduce the fee.
  • School does not accept payment in cash.
  • Please remember that all bank charges should be covered by the participant. 
  • You can pay the fee in foreign currencies – the bank of the Jagiellonian University performs an automatic currency conversion. To calculate the exact amount, please contact your bank directly – the School does not do conversions.
  • In case of early departure, the course fee will not be refunded.
  • The Jagiellonian University School of Polish Language and Culture is not in a position to award scholarships.

The fee for accommodation and board is included in the price of the Camp.
 
The place of accommodation and meals is one of the dormitories of the Jagiellonian University, located in proximity of the place of Polish language classes.
 

ACCOMMODATION

Room standard: university standard. Participants will be accommodated in double rooms. Each room has its own bathroom with a shower. The rooms are equipped with bedding, towels, basic tableware, and an electric kettle. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the facility.
 

Check-in and check-out dates:

  • Accommodation: July 7, 2024 (Sunday) from 12:00
  • Check-out: July 20, 2024 (Saturday) until 12:00

MEALS

Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner served in buffet form.
 
The meal menu includes only meat and vegetarian diets. In the Application Form, please select the type of preferred diet and indicate food allergies - if applicable.
For organizational reasons, we are unable to meet the rigors of strict elimination diets (post-operative, celiac, gluten-free, low-sodium, etc., and vegan), so we kindly ask you to take this information into account before signing up to participate in the Camp.
 

IMPORTANT:

  • Each participant must have one passport-sized photo needed for the resident card.
  • On the day of check-in to the hotel (07/07/2024), lunch and dinner are provided.
  • On the day of check-out from the hotel (20/07/2024), breakfast is provided.

IN THE COURSE WE OFFER: 

The course includes 45 hours of academic language classes (1 academic hour = 45 minutes). Classes are conducted by teachers of Polish as a foreign language from the Jagiellonian University, who have experience in teaching and working with young people. The profiled lesson program includes developing and improving all language skills (speaking, reading, listening and writing), as well as expanding knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. We teach at all levels of language advancement.

Lessons will be held in the morning for 30-minute breaks.

PLACEMENT TEST

A written and oral placement test will be organized on the day of accommodation, i.e. July 7, 2024. The test result will be the basis for assigning the Camp participants to the appropriate language group.

DOCUMENT AT THE END OF THE COURSE

At the end of the course, each participant will receive a Diploma of completion of the language course at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow along with a grade and the number of credit points/ECTS obtained.

July 7, 2024 – arrival and accommodation from 12:00, presentation of the program and regulations of the Camp
July 8, 2024 – inauguration of the Camp and visit to the Jagiellonian University Museum in Collegium Maius
July 9, 2024 – guided tour of the Old Town and Wawel Royal Castle and evening culinary workshops
July 10–11, 2024 – two-day trip, including a rafting trip on the Dunajec River, accommodation at the Kalatówki Hotel, going to the mountains and visiting Zakopane
July 12, 2024 – trip to The Stanisław Lem Experimental Garden (or the Municipal Engineering Museum in case of rain)
July 13, 2024 – boat cruise on the Krakow section of the Vistula
July 14, 2024 – evening classes with a teacher (walk, board games and others)
July 15, 2024 – trip to Ogrodzieniec and visit to the castle
July 16, 2024 – sports classes with a qualified instructor
July 17, 2024 – trip to the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine
July 18, 2024 – shopping in the “Galeria Krakowska” shopping mall
July 19, 2024 – entry to the Krak Mound; farewell dinner
July 20, 2024 – departure day (check out until 12:00)

The School of Polish Language and Culture of Jagiellonian University reserves the right to make slight modifications to the framework program of the " Explorers’ Summer 2024" camp within the detailed timetable or as a result of unforeseen events or weather conditions.

  • Adapter for electrical sockets (type E plugs are used in Poland)

EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) - applies to European Union citizens

For children and young people who are EU citizens, it is mandatory to have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
